From Love My Hood to Reep Green, there are so many ways to create a greener Kitchener
When it comes to protecting and enhancing green spaces in our city, we all have the power to make a difference. Here are a few ways you and your neighbours can get together to make a greener Kitchener:
Kitchener's Natural Areas Program (KNAP) is an environmental program that promotes the stewardship of our community's treasured natural spaces. KNAP offers fun events and learning opportunities for people of all ages, including Discovery Walks, Neighbourhood Nature Play Program and Nature in the City Speakers Series. You can learn more about the Kitchener Natural Area Program and related events by visiting www.kitchener.ca/KNAP.
Reep Green Solutions is a local environmental charity that helps residents of Waterloo region live more sustainably. Most recently, Reep has developed several workshops with the Kitchener Public Library, including a Fruit Trees for Beginners Workshop on August 20 at the Central Kitchener Library in downtown Kitchener. Stay tuned to their events page for more details on upcoming workshops!
Love My Hood and the City’s Parks Department recently developed a Tree Planting Pilot Program with Reep Green, too! To learn more about Kitchener’s first urban forest strategy and to subscribe for updates from the Sustainable Urban Forest Strategy visit, www.kitchener.ca/trees.
In June 2019, Love My Hood launched an all-new Neighbourhood Greening Program to continue to support residents in leading greening projects in their neighbourhoods. This program offers residents ways to beautify, transform and celebrate green spaces in their neighbourhoods – and with a LoveMyHood Matching Grant, you can bring your greening project to life! Connect with the Neighbourhood Development Office today to get started.
