Placemaking makes a splash at the Wilson Community Pool
The neighbourhood pool and community centre are important hubs for the residents of Kingsdale.
A group of local artists known as The Firm painted a mural on the side of the Wilson Community Pool building. It screams adventure and excitement—a ship sailing into the sunset, with a Canadian flag, and the word WILSON stylized to resemble crashing waves.
Many residents in the community supported the mural and came to watch the artists hard at work.
“We saw community members engage with each other for the first time while watching us work, “ shared artists, Paul McDonald and Nicholas William Taylor. “It’s inspiring to see people connect in new ways and we still see many of the people who came out to watch us paint. On most days, while we were painting, we spent an average of 20 minutes of every hour engaging in conversations with community members describing the project, the benefits and getting to know more about the people who live in our neighbourhood.”
The Wilson Community Pool mural is an awesome example of placemaking and how it helps residents feel more connected to their neighbourhoods. The mural encourages neighbours to appreciate their pool even more and take pride in the places they enjoy spending time in.

Paul Macdonald of Kitchener is one of the most talented artists in our city. He is a big part of the Firm. I think the city should contact him for an individual story just about him and what he has accomplished in his life!
