Growing Soup at St. Francis of Assisi
St Francis of Assisi Church's Laudo Si Environmental Team met in Forest Hill earlier this spring to discuss how they can use their horticultural skills and environmental passion to better the lives of their neighbours.
To build, plant, and maintain new food gardens, the environmental team gathered volunteers and in-kind support from their St Francis community and matched it with a LoveMyHood Matching Grant. To address food insecurity, the gardening group now grows enough produce to share with St. Mary's Tiny Home Takeout and parish families.
This autumn the group hosted a wonderful community event to celebrate the gardens. Garden visitors enjoyed games, magic and juggling and explored the garden. To top off a lovely event, volunteers were serving bowls of Three Sisters Soup prepared with vegetables grown from the gardens.
