Listening, Creating, Belonging: talking to neighbours at Timm Park

On a sunny summer evening this summer, neighbours gathered at Timm Park for an exciting step in the creation of the Neighbourhood Mosaic, a LoveMyHood mural project designed to reflect the spirit of the local community. Project leads, staff and community members came together to share ideas and stories, helping shape a piece of art that will soon brighten the park with colour and meaning.

The mural's artist, Pamela Rojas, known for her vibrant, community-driven work, met with dozens of residents, including a number of enthusiastic young artists. She listened closely as neighbours spoke about what makes the area special to them, from the friendships they’ve built to the beauty of the trees, playground, and cultures that bring people together. This event is one of four community consultations and ongoing conversations that will directly inspire the mural’s final design.

This kind of on-site neighbourhood consultation is at the heart of the LoveMyHood approach. When we bring ideas into the community, not just on paper, but into the parks and public spaces where they’ll live, we get to hear firsthand what people care about. It’s not only about gathering input, but about building relationships. These moments often spark new connections and surface future volunteers.

LoveMyHood wants to support more projects like the Neighbourhood Mosaic mural that are reflections of a community’s unique personality. Do you have an idea to support or celebrate your neighbourhood? We have a grant for that! LoveMyHood is not only potential funding for your project, but comes with a single point of contact to help you all the way through, from shaping the idea, to submitting a strong grant application, to walking beside you as you get the project done. We love working with members of the community who want to do something good in their neighbourhoods.
